Often we do come across few one-liners that have a mountain of knowledge hidden in them. From time to time, we do manage to excavate a few gems but as we dwell deeper and longer, more insights keep pouring forth. Time, place, and circumstances all play a role in the key take-home messages.
Here, I plan to collect a few of those wise quotes.
1) Don’t wait to buy real estate; Buy real estate and then wait!
I read this in one the investment books and it just stuck to my head. I’ll look back and bring out the reference to give the original author his due credit.
What a mighty statement that is. However, a blind investment obviously could be more of a pain than source of gain. For instance in India, most often we see plots as something that ALWAYS will go up in value. Not the same with apartments that’ll tend to decline as they age and begin cracking. Sometimes it becomes much too difficult to even sell-off an old apartment, more so if it’s in a gated high-rise apartment complex. But, a plot in a strategic location (even with an independent house on) it is an investment that most likely will remain valuable for lifetime.
2) Neither a borrower nor a lender be. – Shakespeare in Hamlet
How many times we might have lent money to a ‘good friend’ only to never see it make its way back. Many relationships have been ruined and continue to do so on account of this one silly mistake.
3) If you buy something you don’t need; soon you’ll have to sell things you need. – Warren Buffet
The importance of staying within the means is very important no matter the stage of life one is in.
4) An investment in Knowledge pays the best. – Benjamin Franklin
Who could not agree with that. Knowledge of course has to encompass everything – oneself, people around, customer mindset, geography and history, technology and science, politics and leadership. It’s very important to be welcoming of knowledge – from all directions. A difference of opinion is actually to be welcomed, since it helps reinforce or refine our own knowledge.
